Current Projects

Our current projects include work for our customers as well as our own research projects.  We hope this page gives you a brief idea of our scope and capabilities.

HYDROGEN PEROXIDE COMPATIBILITY TESTING

As part of a collaborative programme with SSTL, EAL are investigating the compatibility of various materials with hyrogen peroxide, with the target of testing a new propulsion system within 12 months.  

HYDRAZINE WET PRIME TESTING

EAL continue to perform extensive testing of propulsion systems for various customers in order to characterise pressure drops, water hammer and flow effects with water and, of course, live propellants.

  

GALILEO TEST AND LAUNCH SUPPORT

EAL has successfully concluded its support to OHB system in Germany with the fuelling of the last Galileo batch 2 spacecraft.  EAL fuelled and pressurised all 22 satellites and provided simulant loading and pressure test support at ESTEC.

  


 

MOBILE LABORATORY

Developed on behalf of ESA and ISP International Space propulsion Limited the  Propulsion Analysis Module - External LAboratory allows rapid and reliable on-site analysis of propellants at a fraction of the time and cost currently offered. It was accepted by ESA for use in 2013.

In addition, a smaller suite of laboratory instrumentation, designed for rapid deployment, is under development to provide limited certification capabilities at launch sites.


GSE DESIGN AND BUILD

We are cyrrently looking at a new design of panel for Xenon loading activities, as well as continuing to provide all types of fuelling and test GSE.


GREEN PROPELLANT COMPATIBILITY TESTING

In the context of providing greener, more environmentally friendly propellants for use in the space industry we are currently assessing green propellant compatibility with different weld types for ESA.


PROPELLANT CERTIFICATION AND TEST

We currently provide certification of propellants to the MIL-PRF or customer standards using a variety of analytical techniques.   


ELASTOMERIC AND FLOUOROPOLYMER TESTING

Various materal samples are currently undergoing long term immersion testing to provide important data on decomposition, leaching and material properties in the context of development of the next generation of propellant expulsion devices.  We have extensive experience with nitrogen tetroxide (MON) based propellants, Hydrazine, Unsymmetrical Di-Methyl Hydrazine (UDMH), Mono Methyl Hydrazine (MMH), Hydrogen Peroxide (HTP) and Ammonium Di-Nitramide (ADN).  

 


LAUNCH CAMPAIGN FUELLING AND TEST SUPPORT

EAL have fuelled 24 spcecraft in three different countires in the last 6 years, with more to follow in 2018 and 2019
