Our current projects include work for our customers as well as our own research projects. We hope this page gives you a brief idea of our scope and capabilities.
HYDROGEN PEROXIDE COMPATIBILITY TESTING
As part of a collaborative programme with SSTL, EAL are investigating the compatibility of various materials with hyrogen peroxide, with the target of testing a new propulsion system within 12 months.
HYDRAZINE WET PRIME TESTING
During 2015 EAL conducted a comprehensive series of tests using Hydrazine on a representative propulsion feed system at their B Site Test Facility under a contract with OHB System. The tests were conducted over a range of temperatures and propellant saturation levels, and utilised a high speed Data Acquisition System to record slam start pressure peaks resulting from opening a valve with similar characteristics to a Latch Valve.
GALILEO TEST AND LAUNCH SUPPORT
EAL have been selected by OHB to provide test and launch support services for the Galileo series pf GPS satellites. We have supported the environmental test campaign at ETS (Estec) in Holland, providing the simulant loading, offloading and drying on the FM2 satellite, and will be present in Kourou, French Guiana, for the launch site test activites. EAL will perform all propellant loading activities at the Guiana Space Centre for the 22 Galileo satellites, over 8 or popssibly 9 launch campaigns.
Developed on behalf of ESA and ISP International Space propulsion Limited the Propulsion Analysis Module - External LAboratory allows rapid and reliable on-site analysis of propellants at a fraction of the time and cost currently offered. It was accepted by ESA for use in 2013.
In addition, a smaller suite of laboratory instrumentation, designed for rapid deployment, is under development to provide limited certification capabilities at launch sites.
GALILEOSAT GSE SUPPORT
We are currently building pressure test panels for use on the Galileosat FOC series of spacecraft on behalf of OHB-System, Germany.
GREEN PROPELLANT COMPATIBILITY TESTING
In the context of providing greener, more environmentally friendly propellants for use in the space industry we are currently assisting MT-Aerospace Space Products with long term immersion testing of propellant tank materials in green propellants to determine their compatibility for use.
PROPELLANT CERTIFICATION AND TEST
We currently provide certification of propellants to the MIL-PRF or customer standards using a variety of analytical techniques.
ELASTOMERIC AND FLOUOROPOLYMER TESTING
Various materal samples are currently undergoing long term immersion testing to provide important data on decomposition, leaching and material properties in the context of development of the next generation of propellant expulsion devices. We have extensive experience with nitrogen tetroxide (MON) based propellants, Hydrazine, Unsymmetrical Di-Methyl Hydrazine (UDMH), Mono Methyl Hydrazine (MMH) and Ammonium Di-Nitramide (ADN). We are also looking at compatibility testing of hydrogen peroxide.
CHINA LAUNCH CAMPAIGN SUPPORT
EAL successfully fuelled a spacecraft with hydrazine in China during late 2012.
